ACCOUNTABILITY:                 Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications

 

POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing and Communications Associate will support the comprehensive marketing and communications strategy for Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools that ensures all aspects of the organization’s communications - from marketing and media relations to publications and the website - incorporating exciting and useful messages that articulate and support and carry forward the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Marketing and Communications Associate will report to the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications. The Marketing and Communications Associate will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter School brand. S/he will infuse creativity and strategy into the organization’s marketing and communications by supporting the overall comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy, helping manage the organization’s media relations, social media strategy and the development and dissemination of printed works. The Marketing and Communications Associate will work with the Community Outreach team to uncover compelling stories at the schools and tell those stories through various communications channels.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Support the Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications with all day-to-day marketing and communications functions
  • Incorporate developments in the fields of marketing, communications and public relations into the organization’s communications, ensuring that Freedom Prep remains relevant and innovative
  • Help develop and maintain constant content stream for various communications vehicles, including Freedom Prep’s website
  • Media relations management
  • Develop strategy and implement new network-wide email program
  • Develop social media strategy and implementation across all Freedom Prep Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc.)
  • Cultivate press relationships to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance to the sector, as well as Freedom Prep’s programs, special events, public announcement, and other projects
  • Support schools with event communications (flyers, etc.) and other in-school communications as needed
  • Support the executive and senior leadership of the organization through the preparation of talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed
  • Take on primary responsibility for editorial content, direction, design, production and distribution of school newsletters (print and electronic)

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:


Experience:                 

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least three to five years of full-time experience in marketing or related fields
  • A demonstrated record of professional success utilizing new and innovative media methods
  • Experience managing multiple projects with concurrent deadlines
  • Experience managing and executing across several communications media

 

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead projects and work groups
  • Ability to prioritize and use time effectively and efficiently
  • Strong, current knowledge of education policy issues and trends
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and/or HTML, and InDesign or other design software (Canva, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
  • Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
  • Demonstrate normal depth perception
  • Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
  • Distinguish colors
  • Read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions
  • Verbal communications, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels
